Secure Delete Help

This page describes how to use the Secure Delete program. The source code and executable can be found on the software page.

Important Note. This program does not meet the requirements of the U.S. Department of Defence, and probably does not meet U.K. Ministry of Defence quidelines on secure deletion of data. If in doubt, investigate this area yourself.

Use this program with care, once you've deleted data using this program you will have little chance of the recovering the data.

Controls

Directory. Specify the directory to be scanned for files to convert. Either type the directory name or use the Windows file dialog.

Number of times to overwrite the file contents. Use this control to decide how the file is deleted. You can set this to None to just have the file deleted. Choosing any other values has the file contents overwritten with random data the number of times specified in the control.

OK. Delete all files in the directory. If the Delete files in all subdirectories check box is selected all subdirectories of the specified directory will be iterated, each file will be deleted. When all files are deleted from a directory, the directory will be removed.

Cancel. Dismiss the dialog without deleting any files.

As always with programs that delete files, be very certain that you want to delete the files before proceeding. Object Media will not be held responsible for any loss incurred by using this program. You use this program at your own risk.
